The image of the cowboy became a powerful symbol in American culture, embodying ideals of rugged individualism, bravery, and self-reliance.

 They have become an enduring symbol of American ruggedness, independence, and the frontier spirit. This image has been perpetuated through literature, films, and folklore.  The cowboy lifestyle influenced regional customs, music (such as country and western), clothing, and even language.

The role of a cowboy in Southwest history is highly significant, symbolizing a unique aspect of American heritage and culture.  cowboys were not only vital to the economic development of the Southwest but also left a lasting legacy on American culture and history. Their role in shaping the identity of the region and contributing to its growth and development remains a significant part of the American story.

Cowboys/Ranchers are slowly disappearing due to the hardships, cost of operations, being bought out by corporation regulations as well as many other issues.  To preserve their history, I have set out to photograph as many as I can. So, we can remember the sacrifices of others that allow us to have the pleasures of life now. 

For me, the cowboy/rancher represents strength, service to others, endurance, hard work, and love of their family and land.  This is a trait I hope to have and pass on to my kids and grandkids.
